May 17 – Waste Management and Cartridge World Group Holdings Pty Ltd and Cartridge World North America have launched a new recycling program, with the goal of diverting used printer cartridges from landfills.
The program, “Recycle -2-Save,” will collect used printer cartridges at no charge from businesses, and offer remanufactured cartridges at a lower cost.
Under the collaboration, WM LampTracker, Inc., a subsidiary of Waste Management, will provide free recycling services for used ink and toner cartridges. Free recycling boxes are available by logging onto www.wmlamptracker.com and clicking on “Cartridge Recycling” under the Products drop-down menu.
The companies said approximately 350 million printer cartridges are discarded annually.
Cartridge World said remanufactured cartridges typically cost 20-40 percent less than OEM cartridges.
“This is a win-win for customers that choose to take advantage of this program,” said Matt Coz, vice president Product Recovery Group, Waste Management. “Not only can customers recycle their used ink and toner cartridges in an environmentally responsible way for free, they can also buy the replacement supplies for their business’s needs at a substantial discount over new non-recycled cartridges. That is a GREEN story that every business, large and small, would love to take advantage of.”
“We know from our own research that the cost buying and replacing printer cartridges is a big concern of businesses and consumers. We offer a money-saving solution and our collaboration with Waste Management creates an easy way for customers to recycle their ink cartridges.” said Tom Fricke, chief executive officer, Cartridge World.
